DESIGN THE ILLUSTRATION FOR THE NEW COORS LIGHT BREAKTHROUGH PROGRAMME
OK you creative types – after the success of our 2011 artwork competition we’d like to call on your talents once more to create an illustration for our new Coors Light Breakthrough programme.
The background…
Breakthrough will showcase and promote emerging artists, both local and international to a young, music loving audience. This programme of shows is a festival-within-a-festival happening alongside the 13th Open House Festival from 22nd – 26th June 2011.
This is a new programme of shows which provides the opportunity to be truly creative, with no previous artwork ideas and our desire that Breatkthrough will have a unique identity, separate from that of the Open House Festival. Artists announced so far include Caitlin Rose, Marcus Foster, The Lost Brothers and Treetop Flyers, so this will hopefully give you an idea of the type of music Breakthrough will showcase.
The brief…
As before, this competition is open to anyone – professional designer, amateur doodler… as long as you’re 18 years or older. You can send as many entries as you like, and your design can be in any medium. BUT it must be original, and it can’t have been used for any other commercial purposes. The winning piece will be used in an extensive online marketing campaign so keep this in mind while designing.
Email your design plus contact details, in a low-res format, to: info@openhousefestival.com by 5pm on Thurs 28th April 2011.
The technical bit…
The finalists / winner will be contacted directly to submit the original artwork and receive the prizes. If the artwork is produced on a computer it must be supplied as a layered file – either Adobe photoshop or illustrator (PSD or AI). Any fonts used should also be supplied or at least referenced so we can buy a licence if required. The file should be as high-res as possible as it will be printed as large format poster (A2 + ).
If the artwork is a hand drawn / painted original produced for the festival it would be preferable to have it with no lettering on it.
The prize…
The chosen design will receive £150, 2 x tickets for Laura Marling (24th June) PLUS 2x tickets for Fleet Foxes (25th June) (no travel or accommodation provided) and a case of Coors Light (to be collected in person.)
The small print…
All future copyright of the artwork will belong to the festival. But don’t panic – we won’t make money out of your design. Open House is a not for profit organisation and your work will simply be used for our free marketing materials.
Good luck to ye all,
Kieran, Alison & Team Open House!

Communion Belfast- 28th January 2011: DOUBLE BILL: Napoleon (EP Launch) & Nathaniel Rateliff
Not only is this the first Communion of 2011, but it is also the first Communion to run on a Friday rather than the regular last Sunday of every month. It is fitting that we have such a strong line up for the event, which marks our first collaboration with Out to Lunch Festival.
I am delighted to welcome back both Napoleon to the Black Box (they played during the 12th Coors Light Open House Festival supporting Lissie) and Nathaniel Rateliff to Belfast (he also played during September’s festival- twice in fact- support Low Anthem/Iron & Wine, then headlining a SOLD OUT McHughs basement).
TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM HERE

Napoleon
Having formed in summer 2009, Belfast’s Napoleon have spent the last year and a half focusing solely on their live show. Time has come however for their debut EP, Tell Me Your Industry, which is being released by WeCollectRecords and available from the launch party onwards. We expect great things for this band, both live and on record.
“quickly establish their plans for invading our hearts, a beefed up Bon Iver by way of early Radiohead guitars.” BBC ATL
Nathaniel Rateliff
Denver born Nathaniel played his sold out Irish debut as part of the 12th Open House Festival in September 2010. This debut proved that his live show matches his stunning debut album, In Memory of Loss, which was produced by Brain Deck (Iron & Wine/Modest Mouse). Having recently secured support slots with Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling, The Fray and Low Anthem, it seems clear that Nathaniel has something special.
“Stark, eloquent, Johnny Cash echoes.” The New York Times

Lee Mitchell cancels, Two Door Cinema Club DJ Set Announced
Sadly tonight’s headliner for Communion Belfast, Lee Mitchell, has had to pull out due to illness. All at Communion Belfast wish Lee a speedy recovery- it’s never nice being ill, especially not over Christmas.
The good news however, is that Bangor’s Two Door Cinema Club are going to close the event with a rare DJ set. We are very excited to have these good friends involved in what is set to be a great night of music and mulled wine.
DUE TO LEE’S CANCELATION- TICKETS ARE NOW £5 ON THE DOOR.
